All input and output data are stored in an Access database file that resides on the user’s personal computer or a server that the user can access. Data input is provided to the program through Microsoft Access® forms which can be used in either “form” view (data are displayed on forms which are filled in) or “datasheet” view (as would be seen in a spreadsheet application). The software is installed on the user’s personal computer and started by clicking on a desktop icon.

The computer-based Weatherization Assistant application serves as the umbrella program to access the National Energy Audit Tool (NEAT) and the Manufactured Home Energy Audit (MHEA) and features a Windows graphical user interface. Work is underway to migrate NEAT, MHEA, and other features included in the computer-based application (e.g., work orders) to the web-based application so that all four audits and other features can be accessed from one source. There are currently two versions of the Weatherization Assistant: a computer-based application that provides access to NEAT and MHEA, and a web-based application that provides access to MulTEA and the Health and Safety Audit. The Health and Safety Audit assists in the identification and selection of health and safety measures when a home or a dwelling unit in a multifamily building is being weatherized or undergoing an energy-efficiency retrofit or remodeling job. The three energy audit tools identify the cost-effective energy-efficiency retrofit measures for a home or building after taking into account site weather conditions, local retrofit measure costs, area fuel costs, and specific construction details of the home or building.

The older version of the device has the number “ADF-070108” while the updated version is labelled as the “ND-1000.The Weatherization Assistant is a suite of four audit tools developed by the Oak Ridge National Laboratory to specifically help states and local weatherization agencies implement the US Department of Energy Weatherization Assistance Program, although it can be used by utilities and other home energy professionals: You can identify the NeatDesk by looking on the bottom side to find the model number. 75 amps (see the specifications below for more details). If you’re looking online for a replacement adapter, look for one rated for 24 volts and at least. The device also requires power from an AC power adapter. The NeatDesk has a port for a USB-B 2.0 connector specifically (note that a cable with a USB-B 3.0 connector is physically larger and won’t work with the scanner). To connect the scanner to your computer, use a USB cable. US Letter paper will also work because it is smaller than A4 paper. The largest paper you can put into the machine is A4 paper (8.5 inches by 11.7 inches). The scanning elements inside the device can capture images of your documents at a maximum resolution of 600 dots per inch (dpi). Three channels in the feeder area are marked for documents of different sizes: plain paper, receipts, and business cards. Using it’s automatic document feeder (ADF) feature, the NeatDesk is capable of ingesting a maximum of 50 pages at once it separates each page and scans the front and back of each sheet while the paper slides down through the device. Although Neat left the hardware business in 2016 to focus on it’s cloud document services, many of these machines are still in use they remain a useful scanning tool and can last for years with proper care. The NeatDesk is a desktop document scanner sold by Neat since 2006 (as shown on Neat’s official history page).
